Lesson Objectives

LEARNING GOALS
  • identify questions about the factors affecting the melting rate of chocolate and predict the outcomes of their investigation
  • suggest ways to plan and conduct investigations and find answers to questions
WORK HABITS GOAL
  • I will choose a responsible seat where I can work well and stay on task and be respectful of those around me
WORKING TOWARDS UNDERSTANDING OUR KEY CONCEPT
  • A change of state between solid and liquid can be caused by adding or removing heat

Links to Explore

Enjoy using this interactive to explore how adding and removing heat changes the state of matter and how liquid and gas behave when they evaporate and condensate.

Literacies of Science

PROCEDURAL TEXT

Why do we use a procedural text?
We use a procedural text to find out how something is done.  We can read a procedural text to find out how to do things.
What does a procedural text include?
A procedural text includes a list of materials needed to do a task and a description of the steps used.  It might include annotated diagrams.

GRAPH

Why do we use a graph?
We use a graph to organise information so we can look for patterns.  We use different types of graphs, such as picture, column or line graphs, for different purposes.
What does a graph include?
A graph includes a title, axes with labels on them and units of measurement.

Words Worth Knowing

Heat Transfer
Also referred to simply as heat, is the movement of thermal energy from one thing to another thing of different temperature
