What we did in class
Wow, what a big week! We were very busy this week. We had to prepare our new ISN for semester 2 and start a title page.
We looked at a series of photos of places around the world in day or night and discussed the differences that we could see. There was an obvious difference in how dark or light the night and day pictures were. Other differences we notices were the shadows in the day, that lights were needed to see things at night and that stars came out. We started thinking about how day and night happens by looking at a bunch of statements on why it was dark at night. We thought about the statements and either agreed or disagreed with them. This was to identify any misconceptions the students might have about how the Sun, Moon and Earth interact together. Some of the explanations or arguments the children provided were very insightful! We had planned to construct a brief annotated diagram to show what we thought we knew about how day and night happen, but because we were having such an interesting debate we simply ran out of time, so we will try to do that in week 2. It will be interesting to look back on at the end of the term. |
Literacies of Science
INTERACTIVE SCIENCE NOTEBOOK (ISN)
Why do we use an interactive science notebook? We use an interactive science notebook to record what we see, hear, feel and think so that we can look at it later. What does an interactive science notebook include? An interactive science notebook is well organised and includes dates, titles and times. It might include written text, drawings, measurements, labelled diagrams, foldables, photographs, tables and graphs. WORD WALL
Why do we use a word wall? We use a word wall to record words we know or learn about a topic. We display the word wall in the classroom so that we can look up words we are learning about and see how they are spelled. What does a word wall include? A word wall includes a topic title or picture and words that we have seen or heard about the topic. ANNOTATED DRAWING
Why do we use an annotated drawing? We use an annotated drawing to show an idea or an object. What does an annotated drawing include? An annotated drawing includes a picture and words or descriptions about the idea or object. Words Worth KnowingInference
